4x4 problems

So I went to use my 4x4 today and when it engaged(or I thought) the front was making a rub sound. Every time the drifshaft(I think) made a rotation it sounded like it was rubbing something. But, I had no 4x4. Light was on on the push button. But, no 4x4. I even tried 4Lo and got nothing. Any ideas what it could be?
