ignition swap

hey, So I had changed my ignition on my 99 C230 to a 2000 c230 it came with a key. I know I also have to replace the ECU and Steering lock if I do replace the ECU would that work? the key turns but wont start it. but I was wondering if that would work if i got the matching ECU and steering lock? Also which part numbers would be i need to get for it? Any help would be appreciated.
