Overheating Problem

I have a 2005 Dodge Caravan SXT with the 3.3 V6 and just over 150,000 miles. It had overheating problems and the heat wouldn’t work consistently. I repacked the thermostat, and in the process I bent the thermostat housing. It now leaks antifreeze, which I am aware of. It recently overheated again. I loosened the radiator cap slightly, and the overheating went away and the heat worked fine. What is the problem here? Other than the bent thermostat housing.
