Great article and interesting insight into the growing market of wrapping. I would just like to add that I’ve found the lifespan mentioned here to be a bit short. We wrap cars and trams at our printing workshop in Graz, Austria and the wraps on our company cars have been going strong for well over 5 years! - And that’s with leaving them outdoors, regularly driving through the elements, cleaning in car washes, etc.

This is a really interesting article and indeed a growing market. We run a mobile auto detailing business in Orange County, ca and we are beginning to see more wraps, both full and partial for advertising purposes. Agree with your points about protecting them from the elements. Thanks for sharing.

why must people waste money like this? This is plastic. Where does it go as it degrades and/or gets peeled off in 1-5 years (as per article)? The environment. Landfills. The ocean, where it degrades into microplastics and all sorts of marine life ingest it. Not to mention it's a petroleum product, so it's not cool with #climateChange.

So let me see if I get this. It's as expensive as a high-quality paint job, but doesn't last nearly as long. Oh, and it also might "bake in" if you expose it to much heat. Plus, it will ruin your actual paint job except in ideal scenarios. No wonder this is so popular! (smh)

An important aside is the reason you would get a vinyl wrap. This is because an exotic paint job could easily cost twice as much as a wrap. Yes, a wrap costs the same as a vanilla paint job, but start asking for metal flakes or color change(multicolor) then you’ll be back looking at vinyl again!
