Time to let it go?

14 years old, but only 110k and car needs new engine. Solenoid was replaced by my husband within the past year, but we either got a bad part or it went bad and the repair place is saying new engine is needed. My husband and father-in-law agree with this. Unfortunately agreed to solenoid repair before this new recommendation of new engine. I don't think it's worth paying for new engine and am looking at getting a different vehicle, but finances are tight. Do people buy cars that need new engines? I would like to at least get what I paid for the solenoid repair and oil change. Would love any thoughts and advice. Thanks!

If you think the cost of repairs exceeds the book value, it's time to let it go and buy a new car.
