Are manual and automatic climate control modules interchangeable?

A tree fell on my 1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. I bought a similar 1998 and I’ve been moving the best parts to the 1998. The 1999 has an automatic climate control module; the 1998 has the old school 3 knob manual control module. They appear to be the same physical size and take up the same space. Does anybody know if the auto control can replace the manual, plug and play?

I don't know for sure, My gut is saying maybe, if they have the same connections, inputs and outputs. Would just be how the two types connect to the climate control system. Poking around a bit I found some control units of both types on ebay, and a '98 should work in a '99, just a matter of whether a manual one can replace a digital unit. These do NOT look like they fit in the same slot, but you are actually looking at the two you have. Maybe post some pics of them, front and back, to give us a better idea

Thanks for the response, Flyer. I'd hoped for an answer before removing the modules from both cars to compare vacuum line and electrical connections. I invariably break a tab or two on cars this old. I consulted a reputable collision repair shop nearby and was told with certainty that there was more to the automatic control than what's in the module. So I'm going to move on. Thanks again.
