The brakes are very severe. I step on the pedal gently and they respond very quickly and severely. The car has new rotors, calipers and pads.

2006 impala. Brakes are severe. I step on the pedal and they respond fully and severely. The car has new pads, rotors and calipers. The problem started after I had new brakes installed. I took the car back to the brake shop and they replaced the pads with harder material but it did not help

Doesn't seem likely that the brake pad material is the issue from your description of what's happening. Feels like it has to be an issue with the power brake booster or master cylinder since you're getting more braking than you expect from your brake pedal pressure

That is what I have thought. I have had a difficult time getting anyone to agree with that. Thanks for the input.
