The car runs great on the highway, smooth as silk, but when I am coming to a stop the car stalls with a clunk. I was told a possibility is the transmission is not downshifting, would be similar to trying to stop a manual transmission car that is in high gear without using the clutch. Anybody know about this problem and what it might take to resolve? Thanks
Claude

Could be a problem with the torque converter or low transmission fluid level. Perhaps the torque converter solenoid.
