What rear brakes do I have on my 2003 Chevy S10 4x4 crewcab V6, cuz when I called them for a price they said it could be either shoes or pads?

if there is an option, only way is to go take a look and see. It is easy to tell the difference, just have to look through the wheels

This I know however all I ever hear is S10'ers talking about drums on the rear so i thought it was strange that there was an option??
