Escape drops to idle while driving! No response on throttle

Can anyone help?
Ford Escape runs fine then suddenly and randomly RPM drops to idle speed and has no response to throttle pedal.
Also happens in Cruise Control.
Happened today again, at 70 mph. Drifted over to shoulder. Stopped. Turned ignition off. Restarted car and all fine again. Continued on journey, no problems.
Has happened five or six times over past week.
Any ideas?

    There should be codes setting. Have you had someone pull them from the car? If so, what are they?
