Axel Ratios

in General
I am preparing to purchase a new Dodge Truck. My
only problem is trying to decide between the 3.54
and the 4.10 axel ratio. Can somebody explain the
differences between these ratios? Am I correct to
believe that the 4.10 will respond quicker, but be
slower than the 3.54 (top speed)? Any help will be
greatly appreciated...

I like the highest numerical gearing you can get(4.10's in this case) for the quickness and a little bit more ease in towing. Most of the time the gear ratio will affect the tow rating.
3:73 is the lowest I would want in a pickup. 4:10 (as said) will give you more off the line power and towing power....and high end will not be noticed in a truck.....unless you plan on bypassing the limiter and go racing at 150MPH?

then watch the inside get crudded up(actual word)as it sucks the oil thru the intake..

I like power and fast...but the old oil soaked filter never did it for me..I know it increases power..(maybe)..but I can flip the air cleaner over and get better power and sound just as easy..and have no oil intake..
No fun?
I'm the funnest guy I know!

It adds a deeper 4 BBL sound..even to 2 BBls..and does increase air flow...
This is for Carbs..never tried it on throttle bodys.....are we that old dean?....nobody else has done this in the good ole days!??

Yeah carbs are a thing of the past....probably for the better...no warm ups...no pumping the pedal..no flooding it out....but I still love 'em...(basically due to the fact the cars they were on are farr better (in ways) to what they make now!
New fangled shotgun??

carbohydrates? HAHA! Good call obyone. People will confuse me for a nutrition expert, eh??
There was another benefit to flipping the air cleaner cover over. In years '69 through about '76 or '77 the preheated air for emissions was the major killer in the mileage department. On my '74 Caprice wagon, just by flipping the air cleaner cover the mileage improved about 30%. (Unfortunately 30% of almost nothing is still nothing!) The MPG went from the high nines to the low thirteens.
Gawd, am I that old too?
