I had two problems that caused mine to not start and i did fix them one was the fuel pump worked when it felt like it and i changed it out and the other one was that the distributor jumped a tooth out because the hold down bolt was striped out and the mech at the auto place kept missing it so i pulled it out to see if the distributor was shorting out and when i put it back in i noticed it was off a tooth so i reset it and tapped out the bolt hole and put a new bolt in. now it runs like it did when it was new.

I am not sure what the problem is here. gone through 4 pumps in the last month. the last time it failed was at a stop sign and it just died when I went to push on the gas. before when this happened it would sputter and then just die and I would have to let it coast on the side of the road. The first time my pump went out I replaced the fuel filter before installing the new pump....That was back in July of '11 now I am having this issue with the pump. I have purchased my pumps from 1aauto.com instead of advance or auto zone cause they want like 300 bucks for one...

the truck has 143K miles on it. I have checked the pump relay switch, there is gas getting into the filter but there just isn't enough pressure or something I dunno....I have replaced the spark plugs, the wires, the rotor button, distributor cap, battery but haven't replaced the alternator but that was replaced back in somewhere between 03 and 05...not sure what else to check or just break down and get the expensive fuel pump and hope to god it was just I was buying a crappy pump.

if ANYONE has ANY suggestions or solutions because they have had the same problem please let me know I do NOT want to have to buy a newer vehicle if I can spend 300 instead of 3000 for something as simple as a fuel pump or a switch or something

I have A 96 GMC Jimmy with the SCPFI. It has a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel tank vent valve. It does not do this all the time, It will have a "dead miss" at different rpms, but only when it is not under a heavy load( when holding a cruising speed on level ground). If you punch it, it will run fine but when it levels, off again it will usually start the miss again. Yesterday it did it again and got so bad that I pulled off the side of the road. When I got out and walked around the back of the jimmy, I saw that it was pouring gas out from just to the rear of the rear sway bar. After I shut it off, I loosened the fuel cap and it did not leak again when I started it back up. When it cuts out, I can sometimes get it to clear up by flooring it up to redline a couple of times. I can always smell stale gas when I do this. Anyone have suggestions.

you have to use AC DELCO spark plugs and get the distributor cap with brass fittings from NAPA. trust me on this
