4x4 overnight delay

My Jimmy 2000 4x4 light just blinks when I try to use hi or low but If I turn off the car and let it sit overnight the next morning the 4 wheel drive is engaged. Once out, thats the only way it will go back in. Ive tried park, neutral, drive and reverse and every combination in between, any ideas?
