My 94 ranger 5 speed manual, automatic 4x4 won't work

The light says it is in 4 wheel drive, but i can't push the button to turn it off, and even though it says that it is in 4 wheel drive it isn't. I can't seem to figure it out someone help me.

    Problems with the encoder motor are common but have to be proven by testing and it's all done by hand, no scan tool support for that system. If the control module for the motor can't read the motor's position by the switches inside of the motor the module will not attempt to shift the transfer case.

    There are a number of things that we always had to deal with when it comes to these systems. Broken power wires, damaged feedback wires (from the encoder switches) failed automatic front hubs (I have manuals on mine) and more.
