how to fix AC

I have a chevy 05 tb ls when i purchased it the AC wasn't working i was wondering if this is a fix i can do, this is my first car and wanted to learn how to do maintenance and repairs, if so what would be the step needed to take to do the repair. i do not know if the AC could have some other problem as well because it blows hot air from the engine even with the AC/heat off and this is driving the car at the speed limit at higher speeds it blows more hot air then at lower speeds.
