..I bet it would work...most Z owners have no clue what it gives you....but they got that sticker!

with the Z28 Camaro? As I recall, that was just an engine code, but they got a lot of sales.

Agree that "hype" is a better description than "fad" for the Z71. Also, agree that many owners plus others do not understand what the stickers mean. Good marketing on the part of gm to sell options. I have no problem with it. Seems that most trucks on the dealer lots have it and buyers are forced to buy it if they want the truck off the lot. Think I'll confuse some truck people and put the stickers on my 2wd!!!! Bob

Ryan, I recall that your girl has been after you to take her off-road and that you are not really that interested, but just might do it on labor day weekend. Well, that time has arrived. Tell her that she will have to help you clean the mud off your truck, including the underside. If you don't really want to get in the mud, then show her page 4-31 in the owners manual. That should convince her to just park and stay out of the rough. But how are you really going to enjoy that the features, other than stickers, of that Z71, unless you go through mud holes, jump stumps, logs, ditches, and climb some hills. Might even get hung up. Do you have wench mounted on the front? Best Wishes. Bob

Hey bob I wish I had a "wench" on the front of my truck, that wawy I could get her to fetch me drinks. LOL

I never said i didnt want to go offroading i really do. Just around here theres absolutely nowhere to do it. Where we are going camping there are places. Itll just be some trails nothing realy major. Some small hills too. Just washed my truck i think that was a mistake. haha

Have a great labor day weekend everyone

Ryan, You said she wanted to go off-road more than you. I'm referring to another postings of yours as I recall 2-3 weeks ago. Just having a little fun with you. Good luck.

Lariat, I think Ryan is just about to that point and doesn't need a wench! Bob

Hey Babs! You know to keep that front diff & all that four wheel drive stuff all lubed up you gotta find yerself some loose gravel or mud or snow and lock that thing up every couple a months. You know how it is, if you don't keep it lubed & used, that thing may not work when you need it.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
I used 4 wheel alot this weekend did some grassy trails and small hills truck handled well

most people who purchase the Z-71 will never us the 4wd. Now, I base my opinion, and it is just an opinion, on all of the people I see driving around in their new trucks. You can tell when a truck is used off-road.

People are buying them as status symbols. Its "cool" to drive a truck, they think. It also gives these people a false sense of security in adverse weather conditions. I learned that when it snowed last January here in Arkansas. The number of Z-71s, 4x4 "off-road"s, and the like that were in the ditches was just unbelievable! Yes, it was one of the biggest snows we'd seen in 12 years. But people thought that, "well, I've got 4wd, I can go wherever, however I want."

Had a guy in a Durango 4x4 cut me off in the snow. He wound up in the ditch. Then, asked if I would pull him out!! I was in my old 4wd Scout, with an 8000# Warn winch, being patient, driving slow enough, & keeping enough distance between me & the car in front of me. Well, Durango man saw the gap in front of me, & decided to "go for it" because he had 4wd. I wound up sideways in the road because of him, & he wants ME to pull him out!! I respectfully declined, and he proceeds to cuss me & call me everything in the book!!! I told him that, if he hadn't had his head up his [non-permissible content removed], he wouldn't be in the ditch! But, his precious 4wd Durango wouldn't get him out of the ditch!!!

I guess the moral of the story: Just because you have 4wd doesn't mean that you can leave your common sense at the house!

Sorry for the long, intense post.

.it doesn't make you God...but when used properly...it is very usefull..

for the guy who says he can go anywhere in his 2WD I can in my 4WD....dream on..

    - Tim
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
I agree Z71 = status symbol of sorts. I know i wanted a 4x4 for the snow around here and i know ill get use out of it too. But i bet ill only use the 4x4 5-10% of the total time i use this truck but the sense i have it is reason enough you know

Gas or Diesel? I drive 1000 miles a week, some hauling, 50% driving in 5K to 8K mountain ranges every day. considering F250 crew cab. consider that it will be fininced over 3 yrs, which one should I go with???
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
What the heck does a diesel F250 have to do with a chevy Z71 pkg?
  • keith24keith24 Member Posts: 93
    I agree with you both!

ANYONE who thinks they can go anywhere a 4wd can go in a 2wd, is just out of their mind! If they TRULY believe that, I'll invite them to go 4-wheelin' with me. Am I a 4wd Zen master? Not by a long shot! Nor am I the all-knowing of 4wd. I just know where a 2wd can & can't go.

ryan: That's about what I'll use it. Maybe a little more. We don't get much snow here in Arkansas, but hunting season runs about 5 months, and I try to go as much as I can. And, most of the places I go, (or try to go), have to have 4wd to get there!

I'd rather have it & not need it, as to need it & not have it!

    That's the view from here!

How long has it been since you constructively posted information on trucks? How long has it been since you posted without calling someone a name? How long has it been since you posted anything other than a blanket bashing for GM?

Read the rules, get with the program, or get out.

Yes but it appears to one going into your brain. I hope it will heal.

This f150rules guy is something else.
Kind of reminds me of high school....
"My car is faster than yours".
    No make that elementary school....
"My dad is stronger than your dad".

    F150rules,
It is so great to hear that you have all of your little toys paid for, and that you are such a successful person. After all, he who dies with the most toys or the best toys wins right?

I'm not psychologist just an electrical engineer, however that doesn't hide the apparent fact that you are a very materialist person (probably a son of rich parents), dominating, apparently can't face failure, losing or rejection very well, and that your friends are probably few in number. You need to be right 100% of the time, probably do everything you do exactly perfect and give it 110%, and to fall short on any of these items is unthinkable to you. If you've had children you probably raised them with a heavy hand, and your relationship with them or any of your friends is only skin deep.

And from reading some of your posts, it appears that you have had a bad experience in the past which has forced you to have this apparent, uncontrollable resentment against GM truck owners. What ever incident it was, I think that you should please try to get over it. Besides, does it really matter what kind of truck we all buy? If it does everything I wish it to do, I like it, and meets my expectations than I'm going to buy it, no matter what the label on it says. And currently a new 2001 Silverado LS, ext-cab, Z-71 will do that for me.

Try to loosen up and live life a little more, and for God's sake try not to be so perfect.
And just because some people don't buy Fords all the time, or finish high school and go on to college doesn't make them unsuccessful by any means. Everybody deserves respect, no matter who they are.

    ..JC...LOL

while I have an education....money is not how I judge people....or material things...F150 seems to want to tell us all what he has...thinking it's the best....

well..for $160K you can't even buy a starter shack anywhere near me.....feel better now F150?

what a pathetic life you must live...

and to think all this anger comes from one statement saying that a 6.0 will keep up with a V-10?.....geezz...

nobody said it was better....but his lack of having a V-10 or a 6.0 makes all this anger spew....as nobody said their truck was better or life for that matter...but yet he wants to tell us how good he thinks he has made it....fine..good for you..

it all comes down to defending a title...that nobody really challenged?...so where did it go from there?....well...we get to read it spewing from F150 now...

Success is based on what you have done in your life....for others as well as yourself...and more importantly the friends you have made and what you will do for each other.....when I see a mile long of cars at some guys funeral....That's the guy who made it in life......but some people think a bank account is what makes it....

well...if that's what floats the boat man....so be it..

...some stated like Michigan were built on people who worked long hours in factorys....I'm glad peoples parents and Grandparents did what they did to make this place what it is today...

...I would certainly not bad mouth the people who do it today......(except some of the union ones)

    LOL

Grow up and learn what life is about...and find some respect for yourself before you bad mouth others...

(No trash spoken here...just the truth...I praise Ford and GM....you are just to narrow minded to see).....(after all...you have that blind loyalty)

Tim I think you had the right idea when you said you would ignore F150 if he came over to your site.

I knew a kid like him once. He would lie, cheat, steal, anything - he didn't care as long as someone noticed and paid him some attention. Any attention and he was happy. Ignore him and he will go away!!

Don't read his posts, and don't respond to them and he will take his crying and ranting to some other forum to get the attention he wants/needs.

Too bad that energy can't be directed into something usefull, but we can't send him back to momma to be raised right - but we can ignore him.

Wonder why tim gets away with trash talking dodge and ford? Because its all in fun. Its not done vicously or seriously. Same with the rest. You- your different- very different.

Hey all you heavy Chevy guys- I realize this is slightly off topic but I need some advise and there's no El Camino site. I'm usually on the Dakota site but I'll be working on a 79 El Camino soon. I will be replacing the entire exhaust- from the manifolds back, incl the cat, and I was hoping you guys could help me locate an aftermarket exhaust system- complete. Would like a bigger front pipe and duals coming out of the muffler. Aluminized OK. Any suggestions or offers of past experience would help. Thanks!

    Recently purchased a Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 LT. 4X4,4Dr.
Whew, what a mistake! Front end ride is very "mushy" while rear ride is very "choppy", both of which are very annoying. Lot's of wind noise, in-dash audible vibration, and upon close inspection, fit and trim is not that great.
If you are considering buying a Chevy take an extensive road test on all types of pavement.
By the way, I just ordered a 2001 F-150 Lariat! So, you can say, "been there, done that".
