Have you checked the fluid level? Sounds a lot like it could be low or have a leak. With that much slippage in there, though, you could have damage to your clutch packs. The fluid should be a rich red color if it is 'good.' If it is ready (or beyond ready) for changing, it will be more of a brownish color, and if it is dark, maybe even "black," and has a burned smell, then you likely have some major issues in the transmission.
