Would you pay $8000 to switch from a 2016 Mazda cx9 grand touring with 30,000 miles to a new Mitsubishi outlander phev?

No. As a long time Mitsu fan and former owner I’m sad to say their cars aren’t what they used to be. My biggest concern is their use of the Jatco CVT. Those transmissions have a history of unreliability. Maybe they’ve improved them over the years but I wouldn’t buy a car that had one unless I wasn’t planning to keep it for long. You might also want to check resale values of the Mitsubishi compared to other brands.

Thanks. I appreciate your input. in doing some more research I'm also concerned about Mitsubishi potentially pulling out of the North American market at some point. A 10-year warranty on a vehicle with a battery won't do me much good if the seller has left the country. I think I'll just hold on to the Moss that which has treated me well. I had a Montero in the 90s and absolutely loved it but things just aren't the same as you said.

For what it’s worth the rumors of Mitsubishi leaving the North American market have been swirling around for 20 years.

I had a 2008 Eclipse and it was the most trouble free car I ever owned.

Yeah, they have sort of hung around despite the doubts of their viability. This covid thing might be their death knell in the states.
