Bad battery/bad advice?

The smaller battery died on a new RAV4 hybrid after 3 months. Dealer replaced it and told me I don’t drive enough to charge it and to get a trickle charger. That is not practical—no garage, no close outlet and not useful especially on trips or if I leave the car at an airport for a while. Does this advice sound correct? I would like to get a battery pack jumper but needing one for a new car seems ridiculous. I drive it short distances about 5 times a week. Any advice? Thanks so much
