What Became of OEM Order Codes?

In the past, automobiles - or at least Toyotas - could be neatly described in OEM order codes. For example, my Toyota Camry was model 2560 in color 1G3 with options FE, CF, CP, SR, EE. These codes made it easy to shop and compare, because you knew exactly what you were getting.

Today I am not finding OEM order codes anywhere I look. Did something change, or am I looking in the wrong place?

As it happens, it's just the dealers in my region who aren't displaying OEM Order Codes any more. But you can still find them: Just put the VIN of any Toyota you see into Toyota's Vehicle Information Lookup website at https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/vehicle-specification

I called a dealer near me and asked why they stopped showing order codes in their advertising when they previously did. "It was confusing to customers" is what one salesperson told me. Oh yes, of course.
