High revs in the morning only

Hi Folks. I'm trying to do some long distance diagnostics for my Mother in law. I drove her 2001 Saturn SC1 a couple weeks ago. On the first start of the day it revs to 3500 for several minutes but does not repeat for the rest of the day. A local mechanic cleaned the throttle body but couldn't think of anything that would cause this. Thoughts. I'll get my hands on it in a couple weeks...

    FYI, it's not a cold weather issue - it was about 70 the day I started it
