Dead battery in key fob - Emergency use?

With the dead key fob the button to start the car wouldn't work. Luckily it started on the 3rd try & I was able to get to the battery store. Question is: is there a mechanical way to start the car using the key inside the fob? I couldn't see any slots to insert the key. Anyone know?
