2005 mariner wont move

was going down the street at about 30 mph, car started to over rev, put in neutral and back into gear with no effect. was no warning, no sound, no stalling nothing. it will go into park and cant be moved, take it out of park and it will roll with no problems, but will not engage the tranny. 2005 mariner with a 2.3 fwd, built jan 05. any ideas as to whats wrong?
