Is this a good deal or a money pit worth skipping?

I'm considering purchasing a 2012 Volkswagen CC with over 100,000 miles on it. Seller is asking $3500 which is half of what some websites are showing similar models are selling for.

Are these 2012 VW CC models reliable? Or will it cost a lot in maintenance? by a lot I mean over $1000 per year. Under that is expectable at this age and mileage.
