Control of the HVAC air flow doesn't work

Hello Guys,

I am experiencing a strange issue. I have a 2007 Sienna LE model with manual AC control. There are four big knobs: one controls front fan speed, one temperature, one airflow direction and one rear fan speed. The one that controls airflow direction stopped working. The airflow is going only through the front facing grills. I am unable to switch to anything else. When I connect a diagnostics tool, it says that AC ECU can't be reached. I replaced the whole AC assembly with a new one, but the symptom remains. Any ideas? There was a knocking noise before this happening coming from the solenoid that controls the damper. Could that be related? Thanks a lot.
