Selling an RV with possible title issues for needy client

I work for a non profit in WA state which gives free legal advice to low income residents. One of our clients has a 1994 Fleetwood Bounder on a property they are renting, which they need to get rid of. They say that they are on the title, along with their estranged husband, but they have no copy of the title. Client says the vehicle is registered in Oregon. I've asked the client to obtain the VIN, and also get some pictures. The client is an older woman, and really doesn't know too much about vehicles in general. She says the vehicle has been sitting for about 3 years, and she is not sure if it runs. Husband may have the ignition keys. I have not yet seen the vehicle, so I'm not sure about its condition, but doing some quick searching, it looks like it could be worth $10,000 or more, so it may be worth much more than just scrap value. Would I need to get a hard copy of the title in order to get maximum price, or to sell the vehicle at all? Can ownership of a vehicle registered Oregon be determined online (or otherwise) with the VIN? Any suggestions appreciated, thanks.

You will need the title to sell the vehicle. It sounds like you need to have your client apply for a duplicate title from the Oregon DMV. From there you'll need the estranged husband to sign over or provide you and/or wife PoA to dispose of the vehicle.

I'm up in WA as well but not going to be much help navigating Oregon...

You’ll need estranged husband’s cooperation to get a clear title, which you’ll need to sell the vehicle. Then you’ll need keys and get it into running condition to get top dollar.

First thing I’d do is check the relationship with the ex.

Thanks for the replies, I though those were the facts but wanted to be sure.
