Transmission fluid only leaks while engine runs

I was just wondering if someone could give me an idea on what would suddenly cause this. I have a 1995 Chevy astro conversion van that has almost 98,000 miles on it. This all started the same day the oil gauge said the oil was down to the red line and it was almost out of oil which it was. Had to put in 2 1/2 quarts. Have only ever had to do the oil once a year with the inspection and forget about it until the following year. However, I have never had the transmission fluid changed the 12 years I have had it. Knew nothing about that. Now once the engine is warm and while idling the oil gauge will say there is no oil, but the dip stick says it is full when the engine is cool and warm. Since the oil thing happened the transmission fluid started leaking. I did put cardboard on the garage floor to see if it leaked while the engine was off, and it does not. Have an appointment at the garage but I was hoping someone could give me an idea before I go there. The heater also broke back in January and not sure that has anything to do with the rest.

Maybe if the dip stick says its full, the problem is the sensor? Are you sure, that there is no transmission fluid error? Not sure that your car has this sensor. Maybe the problem is in engine oil?
