I had the door latches replaced because of a recall (KIA bulletin?). That was my 1st mistake , if it ain't broke don't fix it.
My question: Are the door latches in some way connected to the door handle, particularly the driver's side key handle?
3 locks, including hatch work with the fob. - at best it's a toss of the coin with the hatch opening -driver's side only with key.
Now, today, when using the key in the driver's side handle the entire lock mechanism came out from the handle. I've never had this happen on any car I've had in the past.
Is the door latch connected to the locking mechanism or is this simply a coincidence? I called the dealer and they want to charge me to 'diagnose' the problem and more to fix it. All this because of a technician not knowing how to replace the door latch? Before I return to the dealer I want to know what I'm talking about.

If you had that part replaced, then it's the dealer's problem
