    Welcome to this forum. ;-)

I'll post a link to this forum from some of the other Ford truck topics. So hang in there.... Okay? Happy motoring. ;-)

Yes, you're correct. However I'm not there'd be enough activity here to support two separate forums.

I guess my main objective was to offer the pre-super duty crowd a forum where they could discuss their issues and problems.

If it becomes really active here..., we could break this up into two forums: "F-series 1980-1996" and "F-series 1997-1998". In the meantime, I figured one forum could cover the current needs... What do you think?

    Talk to you later. ;-)

do it. All F-series '80 to '98. Including the
    F250's from '97 on. I ve see n lots of F250 HDs,
freeways are full of them...with lady drivers too,
at least here in greater Los Angeles...I feel reason not too many ladies on Townhouse topic
rooms is because they are out enjoying their
awesome trucks while their boyfriends and hubby's
    drive the Honda Accords...

that is exactly what is happening this week to me.

the wife is driving the f350 4x4 to work and i am driving the escort to work :( .

the weather here in northern indiana hasn't been too good this week.

if i am good this week, i may get to drive the truck this weekend.

i must say i am amazed how smooth the truck rides with the 4x4 engaged.(no silverado vibrations, that ought to get some posts going!!!).

    see ya,

    silverado or desperado vibrations?? hmmmm
My C2500 rides like a 3/4 ton truck with 16 in
tires filled to 50 psi front and 80 psi rear....

    ahhhh smooth as sandpaper....

150 Shetland ponies and lots of nice torque, almost same as

A week or so ago, I purchased a 1982 F350 XLT Lariat LWB with a 400ci V8 (with 158,000 miles) and 3-speed automatic. Having now driven it for a few hundred miles, my gas mileage has ranged from a low of 7.6 MPG (surburban driving mostly, not much "stop and go" really), to an astounding 8.9 MPG on the highway (averaging @ 65 MPH, with the tailgate down to reduce drag)!

So far I've changed the oil & filter, air filter, breather element, and PCV valve; and have purchased spark plugs and a fuel filter which will be installed shortly. I realize the law of diminishing returns will kick in pretty quickly, but is there any one thing I can do relatively inexpensively that will result in a marked improvement in gas mileage (like in the 10+ range)?

Any information anyone can provide as to the "official" horsepower/torque rating of the 1983 400 V8 mentioned above would be greatly appreciated. (The truck was originally purchased in San Diego, CA, so it is saddled with California emissions).

Just noticed in post #14 I put the wrong year down; the truck is a 1982 model.

I'm also leaking a fair amount of oil - From going over the previous owner's records, the rear main seal seems to have been an area of focus in the past. Is this a common problem with this engine?

Have had my 97 F350 for over 3 years now. So far the power stroke motor is everything it was touted to be. I am looking for information on the chips that are available to boost horsepower, and also would like to know if they increase or decrease fuel economy. Overall the truck has been great . This was my first new vehicle , still have (1) 86 F150,(1) 86 F 250 , and of course old reliable a 77 F 150.
