First Responders - Don't Buy a Kia Vehicle!!

I have a 2016 Kia Sedona that has had several engine problems. I have 131k miles on it. A special warranty came with it from the dealer when I bought it, 20 year/20K miles for the engine, powertrain, etc. Now, I have that vehicle sitting in my driveway with a crack in the block. None of the problems were covered because I am a VOLUNTEER firefighter and I installed a red light and siren on my van to respond TO THE FIRE STATION, NOT TO THE EMERGENCY SCENE. Because of that, when my van needed crankshaft sensors (2), it was not covered. The cost of that repair was $5600. Clark Meyer of Superior Kia in Cincinnati contacted Kia about it. Kia covered the parts, and I had to pay $1600. I should not have had to pay ANYTHING!! 3 weeks ago, while driving at 70 MPH on a local expressway, my van jolted, blue smoke out the back and lost power. I IMMEDIATELY pulled to the side of the road and stopped. There was an oil spill about the size of a barrel head on the ground near the front of the van. When the wrecker showed up, I asked the driver what he thinks happened. He looked under the van and told me it looks like an oil pressure hose blew. Kia in Florence, Ky. said there was a crack in my engine block. They wanted $14k to replace the engine. Again, I believe that should have been covered. No other auto maker that I know of (and I asked around) has ANY type of exclusion like this in their warranties. I was a loyal Kia customer, owning 3 Kia vans since about 2003. Not until this vehicle have I had such problems. Previous vehicles had a light and siren, and nothing was said by Kia back then. I will NEVER buy another Kia. And, I will pass the word to my fellow VOLUNTEER colleagues NOT to buy one as well because of the voided warranty situation. You would think that a major company like Kia would welcome the volunteers as normal. But instead, they have policies that damn us for helping our fellow man. It's just another ploy by a big league auto maker, making a loophole, and playing the odds of that loophole, to get out of taking responsibility for the quality of their own product, or THE LACK THEREOF! Well, DAMN KIA!!

HI Joe, I understand your plight.
Sounds like the "extended" service contract is with your origina dealer. so you should be up with them.
Yes kia's product failed but they only warranty that for 100k from the factory and that is if you perform aand document the required maintenance. Read your purchase contract from the dealer you purchsed it from. then if they do not cover it. (which they won't they will dance around it quite a bit) as their "lifetime" warranty " really is only a marketing tool to get you to buy because nobody is going to keep a kia for their lifetime. Next if you have some solid footing that their warranty is legit, do not let them tell you your light caused it. if so i believe the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act, has provisions in it that require the mfg or agent to prove your aftermarket additions were contibutory to the the failure of the parts.

sorry you had bad luck with your auto, but like all mechanical objects they are subject to failure at any time, and as time goeds by (8 years ) the liklihood of a failure becomes greater everyday.

    Good luchk hope this helps
