cat with a 12mm hole down the middle of honeycomb

never seen anything like it. The honeycomb is nice n clean and just decontaminated. But of course it won't work too well with a hole that goes all the way through.
No idea how this could happen. The owner don't know either, he just pulled it out that way.
Anyone ever seen this before?
just plug the hole and reinstall?

    Probably a cylinder misfire sometime in the past. When the substrate fails like that it is from overheating typically caused by an engine misfire that puts both air and fuel into the exhaust for the catalyst to try to clean up.
