To buy or not to buy: Audi Extended Warranty

Hi Folks,

My 2019 A6 is about to come off of factory warranty shortly. Running fine, so issues. Dealer maintained. I intend to keep it for few more years and have been shopping for extended warranties that can cover expensive unforeseen repairs. I'm getting quotes from $6800 on the low side to $8200 on high side for additional 5 years of coverage and 100k miles total.

I would like to buy the coverage, but this is quite high. Any recommendations for better plans and/or just ditch them altogether and why.

Thanks in advance!

I’ve never bought an extended warranty so take what I say with a grain of salt. However, is this a manufacturer backed warranty or a third party? I’ve been told that third party warranties may be lacking when it comes to covering more expensive repairs.

Personally, when a salesman is pushing for an EW I ask to see the exclusions page. This tells you what ISN’T covered.

If $6800 is the best you can do if you like the car and want to keep it, I’d roll the dice and take my chances.

If you’re that unsure about the A6’s reliability, put that $6800 toward the purchase of an another car.

My free advice? Self-insure. Put the $6800+ in a now decent earning online savings account, earn interest (4-5+%). If you need money for a repair, there it is. If you don't need repair money, you keep your money and make it work for you instead of the (dubious?) extended warranty underwriter.
