Cherokee trunk closes on top of me

I've got a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the trunk door won't stay open. I open it (it lifts up), but then it just swings down and closes. This problem is omni-present in cold months, but has become more common in warm months too. Also, the colder the weather, the stronger the force with which the door shuts. Any ideas on how I might be able to fix this?

Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem. The hatch doesn't open all the way and I have to push it the rest of the way open. I figured it was the tubes. Thanks for the Pep Boys tip.
