If it is $39,500,000,000.00, thirty-nine billion, five-hundred thousand in profit then that's even worse than what I said in my previous post of 39,500, 000.00 thirty-nine million five-hundred thousand.
What's amusing is that you were outraged when you thought that Exxon/Mobil made 39.5 million in one quarter. Do you have any clue how many corporations make over $39.5M per quarter?
The profit made from a 1-time sale of a house and the continuous every day profit that the oil companies make it like comparing apples and oranges
If you make an extra $100k on the sale of your home that will cost the buyer approximately $600/month extra on his mortgage payment. There is nothing one-time about this expense. And shelter is easily as much of a necessity as an automobile. So let's see, the average motorist buys about 50 gallons of gas a month. If the price is inflated by $1 he's getting "gouged" by $50/month. Compare that to the $600/month he's getting gouged by the home seller asking market price and you're correct, it really is apples and oranges.
87 Octane $2.60 per gallon 89 Octane $2.70 per gallon 91 Octane $2.80 per gallon
I wish that the Eastern state prices would migrate out west. Today it cost me $62.00 to fill up, 23.9 gallons. My gas tank holds 26 gallons.
I noticed someone posted $1.98 per gallon for 87 Octane. You are lucky. That price would have saved me $14.81 today alone. I've already used 1/2 of that tank today and will have to fill up at least one or two more times this week.
We lost our last one that I know of about six months or so ago. Just as well. My last visiot there was in the post-Katrina craziness. While I was on line they bumped the price of regualr up a dime!

They have no shame. I know some don't care if we get gouged at the pump but man I sure notice in my wallet. Gas is pretty much $2.19+ everywhere here in the panhandle.
Yep; still lots of Texaco's around. Price at the one that I drive by twice a day has held steady for about a week at $1.97/$2.07/$2.17 for 87/89/93 octane.
Actually I did figure that Texas would still have Texaco but they have become pretty much extinct up here. Actually we don't have much of their now parent Chevron either. Most of the Texacos have become Shell for some reason. All the Mobils and soon the Gettys are becoming the infamous Lukoil.
Where's a Flying A station when you really need it?
2015 Mazda 6 Grand Touring, 2014 Mazda 3 Sport Hatchback, 1999 Mazda Miata 2004 Toyota Camry LE, 1999.
As part of the ExxonMobil merger they had to spin off a load of Mobil stations in the Northeast. The Russian oil company Lukoil bought the lot of them. Right now they are selling refined middle east oil but will eventually go to using Russian oil.
Flying A was an ancient brand. There was only ever one station that I remember in our area. J. Paul Getty bought them up with some other things and that became Getty which, no doubt, is another strictly Northeastern brand. They are all over the place here. Lukoil owns them now but they haven't changed the names yet.
It is amusing having a Texan say that someone else is from another planet but I have difficulty denying the charge.

yesterday I noticed that the Mustang gas station had lowered it's price for 87 no-lead to $2.03/gal. That is the lowest I've seen it in this Arizona cowboy town for months!
Last week you could buy unleaded regular for $2.24. Today it is $2.48. I think we are trying to compete with Washington state and Hawaii for highest priced gas.
I drove my wife's Lexus to the bank and was going to fill it up. I drove by the station and into the bank. The price for 91 premium was $2.69 per gallon. I was not in there 10 minutes. When I came out the price was up to $2.77. This is at the cheapo ARCO station. Valero across the street had their 91 premium at $3.08 cash and $3.18 credit. Sounds like I need a tanker truck to go get a load from AZ or TX.
The gas prices here had stayed up near $2.19-2.29 except in one competitive area. There it was as low as $2.08. I filled up yesterday after the "price powers" raised the price at all (almost) stations to $2.39. There was a winter snowstorm coming. So they wanted to be sure to profit on the certain fillups!
There were lines at the pumps at the brand name station. They're at $2.39 today I'm sure when they got the fax/
to $2.25 ~ $2.35 at most stations. Haven't needed to fill-up but will by weeks end. Hopefully the snow storm will have passed by then and the price doesn't go up, again.
I hate to even post this. I'm starting to think that the service station owners, etc read this forum and adjust their prices accordingly.
87 Octane is $2.72 89 Octane is $2.82 91 Octane is $2.93. Of course these are the prices at Chevron, Shell and Texaco.
At some Arco’s 87 Octane is $2.55 89 Octane is $2.65 91 Octane is $2.75.
Here we go again. I was really hoping that the price would continue on the downward trend after Mobil posted it's quarterly report. Unfortunately they went just the opposite way.
The least expensive I seen 87 Octane in the last year or more here in Southern California was $2.26 and that did not last long.
As a disabled veteran living on a fixed income I envy you guys that have seen gas under $2.00 a gallon and some of you that still pay $.65 a gallon less than we do.
As soon as I can I will be leaving this state which I've lived in for the past 46 years. My family came to California in 1849 and we have been here every since. I still have quit an extensive family that lives here. They can be jealous of me when I move back east and start paying the lower prices in taxes, fuel, etc.
Be sure and look at all the taxes in whatever state you are planning on moving to. I have and CA is high but still around 12th from the best. Mainly due to Prop 13 property tax relief for those like yourself on fixed income. I thought about TX. They have some of the highest property taxes in the country. Same with Oregon. There are some good studies out there that look at all aspects of the cost of living. Research them well. If you have owned your home since the 1970s you have some of the lowest property taxes in the USA. If you are retired you should be able to keep your mileage fairly low. My fuel on four vehicles costs me about the same as my electric bill on a per month basis. Water, natural gas, cable, and phone are all higher now than ever. All things to look at in prospective states.
Mount Arlington Exxon jumped from 2.079 to 2.149... I imagine my next fill-up at Sunoco will see a gas increase, but probably not diesel. Commodities for March delivery... home heating oil (same raw #2 as diesel) and unleaded regular are almost the same on the NYMEX.
ARCO (the cheap guys) just unilaterally went from $2.54 to $2.58 at all the stations I passed today. Even Costco was at $2.55 for the cheap grade. This is still about 20 cents a gallon cheaper than the average I have paid over the last 19 months. My average on my truck since June 2005 is $2.72 per gallon.
Yes they were. I have over a dozen letters from my G.G. Grandfather who was the chief surgeon on Capt. McCoys wagon train.
His letter to his wife and children are very legible and informative about what life was like then, etc.
Back to the price of gas.
87 Octane $2.72 89 Octane $2.82 91 Octane $2.92
I knew that this was coming, at least here in California. Two of my nephews work at the shell and Chevron refineries. Both refineries have had mishaps with explosions the past couple of weeks.
The shell refinery has also been down for maintenance for the past month. They pass on the cost to all of us. The profit that they make is not enough, or so it appears and so we all loose.
Has anyone be paying attention to the cost for a barrel of oil lately. It has been as low as $40.00 a barrel. This is what they paid in the 80toes and 90ties. Oh no, I bet that this post will get some disagreements from those who are still try and convince the majority of us that we are not being ripped off. :surprise:
The cheapest price here is $2.76 for regular unleaded. Traffic is horrible and I have never seen so many Escalades in one area. I do not think the price of gas affects these people. Highway 111 from Palm Springs to Indio, about 20 miles of surface street, was stop and go bumper to bumper.
at 2.199 for 87 and 2.299 for 89 octane at the local Citgo here in Glenn Dale, MD. Filled up the Intrepid last nite (87), and the pickup this morning (89).
If we are worried about buying from OPEC, we should also look at the price they are selling oil. The basket price today for OPEC is $53.20. A good reason to not use our own oil. That spot price is more than likely for West TX sweet. A full $5 per barrel more than Saudi oil.
My post was for the gent who mentioned that oil had fallen below $40, which to my knowledge has not happened in quite some time, for ANY kind of crude oil.
Oil prices started out the year with a steep sell-off, briefly falling below $50 a barrel as a mild winter swelled heating oil supplies and doubts lingered about OPEC's ability to cut production. The drop below $50 was 36 percent less than oil's all-time, non-inflation-adjusted trading high of $78.40 reached last July.
But crude prices have rebounded in the past couple of weeks, making a run at $60 several days in a row, as OPEC cuts took hold and cold weather moved into the Northeast, the world's largest heating oil market.
Sabre rattling with Iran also lent support, as the country defied a U.N. mandate to stop enriching uranium and the United States sent another aircraft carrier strike group to the gulf.
But crude never settled above $60, casting doubt as to whether oil prices would again trade in the $60s in the short term.
Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia's oil minister said crude prices were comfortable in the $50 range, sparking speculation that OPEC will leave production unchanged at its upcoming meeting in March. Oil prices slid more than $2 on the news.
In an effort to support prices, OPEC began cutting output last fall. Announced cuts now total some 1.7 million barrels.
While few believe OPEC will ever get full compliance on output cuts, and estimates are notoriously inaccurate, many think OPEC has achieved a bit less than half of its announced cuts. Combined with other developments, this has apparently been enough to keep oil prices in the $50s.

Sometimes I think that NJ must be like a whole 'nuther planet....

LOL! Yeah, I'll bet.....
You need to make down to Tejas sometime......we don't even require passports.
Oh. Is that new?
Gas prices are still high $2.16-$2.20 here in Dumas.
Amarillo, is $2.14-$2.30 :surprise:
Rocky
Besides, I'd think it was apparent if one were to drive through South Texas that we OBVIOUSLY don't require passports....

Yep. We also have ZERO State Income Tax...
And (to keep on topic) the local Texaco (north of Leander, Texas) is up .02 over the last week. Prices this a.m.:
$1.99/87
$2.09/89
$2.19/93
If you make as much as rorr, does the zero property taxes really works out well.

Yes, I have.
