Electronic Instrument Cluster very dim - Is there an ambient light sensor?

Inherited a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis when my wife's father died. Electronic, digital instrument cluster display is very dim in the daytime but very bright at night. Wondering if there is an ambient light sensor somewhere that might need to be replaced. Does anyone know about this?

The electronic cluster was back lit with four bulbs if I recall correctly. It was common to have to replace those lamps. They are smaller than the typical peanut sized 194 lamp.

Yes, many electronic instrument clusters do have an ambient light sensor that adjusts the brightness automatically. However, if your cluster is very dim, it could be an issue with the sensor, settings, or even a fault in the cluster itself. Check your vehicle’s manual for instructions on adjusting the brightness manually or consult with a technician if the problem persists.
