Transmission slipping and trouble shifting gears in my 2002 Honda Civic lx.

Mileage- 199k
My car started to jolt/jerk when shifting gears and also had a whining noise. Later my check engine light came on and the car would gradually decrease in mph but the rpms would go up. We ran the engine codes and got P1298 which is for an Electric code detector. We ordered one and we will put it in but are sure this one part is not causing the issues. After looking up why my "rpms are going up but my car isn't accelerating" I always read that the problem was that the transmission was slipping. In one video I watched the guy had similar problems, the noise and the cars' rpms going way up but no acceleration. It sounds like he put diesel in the transmission and then shot air through the transmission pump. This solved the issues and got the car running like it did before. I looked it up and it says not to put diesel in a transmission. But we don't want to jump ahead and get a whole new transmission if we can solve the problem here at home first. Do you have any ideas as to what we can do or what the problem may be? And have you tried the diesel trick? Thanks!
