It is November 2024:
I own a car (worth $20k) and considering selling to get a 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Limited Trim. The Grand Highlander Hybrid is marked up to $60k (before taxes and fees). My current car is fine (with poor gas mileage) and I am in no rush to get a new car. Any advice? Sell my car and buy this car, negotiate to lower cost, wait for 2025 model, drive my current car into the ground, etc.?

If I had a car that was in “fine” condition and therefore not in a bind to get another car, I’d wait until the price was reduced especially on a 2024 with the 2025’s about to be introduced. I’d say you’re in the drivers seat and I’d let the dealer know you’re interested then sit back and wait for them to make an offer. Even if they make what appears to be a good first offer, I’d wait to see if they reduce it even more because It’s difficult to know what incentives a manufacturer gives dealers on cars sitting on their lots at the end of a model year. Keeping in mind that it could be sold to another party that is also playing the same game. You’re the only one who knows what you’re willing to do.

Good luck and let us know what you did.

You can buy a lot of gas for $40k if that’s your only consideration.
