I put my 2001 escape in reverse and it got stuck, so I turned off the ignition and now it won't start and it is still in reverse. Someone told me it could just be my linkage needs adjusting. The problem is I don't know where it is located or what it looks like. Can anyone help me?

Had the same problem with my '01 Escape XLT about 8-months ago. The transmission shifter cable (if this is the problem) broke causing me to get stuck in-reverse. The cable is located underneath the and sdjacent to the battery box. It's difficult (at least for me) and I had to get a mechanic friend to help-out. It took about 1+ hour to do and was a hassle. Expect to pay about $300.00 if you take it to a shop.
