I bought a Haynes manual for a Toyota Camry, and then turned around and purchased a Chilton too. I justifed the action by thinking that "two manuals are better than one". Both have readily identifible errors. Example: Haynes shows a picture of under the hood and lables certain key components. Their label for the windshield washer tank is "radiator reservior". Another example: Chilton lists the fluid volumn of transaxel as 9.7 pts. The Owners Manual says 2.something quarts. So, even some of the simple things are not correct. There are probably very few of these kind of errors (hopefully), but these kinds of small errors/misprints can be troublesome to those who do not PAY ATTENTION !
Bought this book cause I want to remove some dirt inside the dashboard ( speedo lens ) and the instructions on this book is so vague that you were wondering if they did try doing this before publishing those instructions. Don't really recommedn this manual...
I have a haynes, a chilton, and a bentley manual for my VW. Bentley is buy far the best manual I have ever seen. That's why you can buy one through your VW dealer. The haynes manual was done using a car with right hand drive which can be somewhat confusing. It also has almost no detail at all. They cn run about 70$ but they are worth it.
I have these ORIGINAL FACTORY SERVICE MANUALS but the cars are long gone. These manuals are for sale for less than 50% of what I paid for them: 97 Sentra manual $60 98 Camry manual $95 plus shipping of course.
Both are like right off the press (like new).
I also have oil and air filters for both cars (probably at least $15-20 worth for each car) and you can have them for free if you buy the manual and pay the shipping).
If interested please indicate how I can contact you.
Ever since the Chilton Book Company went out of business in 1997 it has not been the same. The current "Chilton" books are published by Nichols Publishing. In my opinion if you haven't the cash to spring on the factory books, Haynes is the second best way to go. They, at least tear down every car and give detailed illustrations as well as "factory" wiring diagrams. It's not 100% but its not over $100.00 either.
I have followed the links and so far have found that only http://www.tmcpubl.com seems to sell Nissan shop manuals. I'm about to call them, but I was wondering if anybody knows where else I could get one (the factory one).
Factory manuals are the best for the money. You have to want the most info. you can get about any repair. Factory manuals cost more but are more comprehensive and are well worth it.
My 1997 Sentra Owner's Manual had a 800 toll free phone number of the publisher of the official Nissan service manuals (I think it was towards the back of the manual). If your manual does not have such a number, let me know and I'll try to dig the manual out and post the phone number.
We bought a Crown Vic the 3rd week of August, 2000. We also bought the HELM'S Manuals right away. They have never been used and will sell for $66.50.(Half price plus s/h.) Paid $126.50. They are VERY helpful as we bought them for our '91 Park Ave. and saved way more than the price of the manuals!!! Reason for selling...I wanted another Park Ave. which we picked up Dec. 26th.
