Dasaint1: We can use the sushi to catch fish out of the lake and them cook 'em up on the grill. Sushi is not on my menu.
Fastback: I like your idea about the link on the CSG home page. Stageleft or I will email you with the specifics.
As far as discounts on CSG products go. Hummm lets see, so far we have nothing to offer, so we will offer a 20% discounts to members, so $0.00 - 20% is nothing. So nothing will cost members $0.00. Actually we are working on getting CSG items made up. Hopefully we will have something to offer you guys at the meet in NY.
I have had 2 blowouts on my Firestones. At only ~$130 per tire at my local LM dealer (Including installation, etc.), it is not as expensive as your's Lesliep. The way I look at it is that I'll never know the actual tread life of the tire as they keep blowing before I get a chance to wear them down! My two original ones however are wearing fine at 30,000 miles.
The interesting thing I found in the C&D review was the brake pad wear. My rears are currently borderline, and my front's are getting close to needing replacement at 30,000. I'm not sure, maybe I shouldn't use them so much.
We can start with our own CSG t-shirts. Actually, I have the iron-on paper. I just need the logo to put on it and the t-shirt to put logo on.
I'm in the process as we speak of getting some nice photo shot of my Silver Frost onto an iron-on paper. I don't have the t-shirt as of yet to see how it comes out. Hey, Amber, imagine a Silver Frost Cult t-shirt. Ooooooooohhhhhh!!!
I was provided t-shirts for NECO, I still have my Contact Nice thing about them its Silk screened, No offense, but I don't think Iron ons have the look of a professional shirt. Badulah Can you find out if Edmunds would provide Co-op if we included their Name/Logo/URL on the shirt?
Fredly: Currently we have submitted a number of requests to Edmunds. Our plan is to have their name on all CSG items. We have not received a response back yet, but we are expecting one in the VERY near future.
I'm sorry all of this is taking so long. Unfortunately things always seem to take longer than we would like them to. The only thing I can say is, the wait will be worth it.
that's how long it took me to discover a scratch on my Cat.
I was at Home Depot today. I parked the car far, far away from everybody. But apparently, not far enough as someone put a scratch in front of the driver side door and another one beyond the door. It didn't seem too deep of a scratch. I'm gonna wax her tomorrow and pray to the Almighty that both scratches go away.
Some people are just envious. They can't see anyone have something nice. What a bummer!!!
You're right about the superiority of silk screened t-shirts. But don't give up just yet on the iron-ons 'cause they can be applied to other items besides t-shirts. For example, a Cougar mouse pad would be pretty cool, don't you think. I'd throw away my current mouse pad in a heartbeat.
I'm just getting started with it. Once I get the picture I want, I'll start ironing-on everything. How's about a Cougar apron for Stageleft while he's grilling our dinner?
...btw, I can make it for the July 22-23 weekend. Yessssss, I just found out today--my business trip is on the 10-14th. So far, I'm in, as well as Badulah, Stageleft and Fastback2. What about you, Amber? Don't chicken out on us. We're expecting you and bring plenty of beer (good thing Cougar holds lots of goodies). Is anyone else in for the July 22-23 weekend??
Fastback2, I just checked out your website. I only got to check out the first link, www.lakeplacid.com (I'll check out the other links soon). From what I've seen, North Pole Campground and Motor Inn might be best suited for us. They've got tentsites, cabins, cottages and motel rooms to suit everyone's tastes. Go check it out and see if it's to your liking and post your comments. What's your recommendations, Fastback2? Have you visited or stayed at any of the places on your webpage links?
There seems to be so much to do from trout fishing, mountain biking, canoe/boat rentals to tours of Lake Placid. I'm really looking forward to both the CSG meet and Lake Placid (we'll all probably just end up detailing our Cats and drinking some fine spirits during the weekend).
Woo Hoo!! Wish I had my cougar. I'd love to come up and hang with you guys and do some shredding on my Fisher. (FYI that's my mountain bike) If i remember correctly 'Dulah is a Mt' Biker too. Darn i wish i wasn't laid up and outta work with this shoulder injury. That's the only thing holding me back from ordering. Gotta have income to have a car. And you gatta be able to drive stick. Can't do that with my right shoulder not working ;^)
Jimbo_G
P.S. maybe someone could "loan" me their Cougar so i could be an honorary participant....... ......pssh..... NOT!
I too have the cr@ppy Firestones. I discovered a bubble in the sidewall of one tire at 5000 miles, and it took the Firestone dealer over three weeks to get in a replacement -- I live in CA, and the tire had to travel all the way from NC!
Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I had a Fisher too. The Hoo Koo E Koo to be exact. It's my wife's now. I got a full suspensioned K2. However, I still like the Fisher since it rides low and long rather than high and short as the K2.
The thought occurred to me to bring both bikes. I have a Thule roof bike carrier with attachments for my wife's Cavalier. I don't see it fitting my Cat, though. Plus, I didn't wanna drive 8 hours to LP with 2 bikes sitting on the roof. Does anyone have a roof bike carrier for their Cat?
Now you guys have got me thinking. I might just have to go out and buy a bike rack for the Cat. I have a Mongoose, it's not the greatest bike, but It was on sale and for the price I couldn't pass it up.
CSG Trip Check List 1 - Cougar Check 2 - Camera Check 3 - Detailing Kit Check 3 - Camping Equipment Check 4 - Fishing Pole & Tackle Check 5 - Mountain Bike Pending
Fastback2: Stageleft and I would like to post all of the Lake Placid information on the CSG home page. We could either like to your page, or we could just post it. Please let me know what you would like to do as soon as possible.
22K and believe it or not, the Firerocks seem to be doing better now than when they were new. Odd, eh? With my luck now, they're probably at their peak and I'll have to replace them in a couple thousand miles anyway. Well, at least they seem to be okay now but I've never heard of a 20K+ break-in period for tires ...
I have a Hoo Koo E Koo as well it's a 97 or 98 i think (green and yellow)
I love it!!
Badulah: where can i find info on the NY Auto Show. I'm planning on going up with my friend Rob (coincidence ha ha ) and trying to meet up with you guys....
Dasaint1: With some carefull planning, you can get two mountain bikes in the back with the seats down. My wife and I ride Giant mountain bikes. I spread out a drop sheet in the back when transporting them, so as not to dirty up my kitty. I don't even like a dirty trunk. A drop sheet is handy when loading the bikes in too. I flop it over the rear bumper to ensure I don't scratch it.
I didn't realize there were so many mountain bikers among us.
Yeah, my Fisher's also green, Jimbo_G. We might have to plan another get together just for mountain biking. This way I can bring my wife's car instead. Krnch, even if I fit 2 bikes in the trunk--what about the rest of my stuff. And you know how women are when it comes to packing, my wife will bring everything. :>)
But realistically, it wouldn't be practical to go mountain biking while in LP. There's so many other things to do.
As there isn't a whole lot of info on my web page, it probably makes sense just to post it on the CSG website. As I get more info, I'll either relay it here or email it over to you.
dasaint1:
I checked out the North Pole Campground and Motor Inn link that you mentioned(www.northpoleresorts.com). Looks like a nice combination of cabins and campgrounds. I like camping, however it's awfully nice to have a cabin available just in case the weather is crummy. It also looks like there is a KOA campground with similar facilities nearby. Since I'm going to VT this weekend, I'm planning to make a little side trip to check these places out. I'll let you all know what I find.
Friday, someone put a scratch on the driver's side with what looks like a key or something.
Saturday, I take my Cat to my friend's house to see if we can polish and wax the scratch off. He used a polish and compound and manage to take some of the scratch out but in the process, he took off some of the paint as well. Now, I don't know which is worse, the scratch or the discolored paint. Anyone's got suggestions?? I guess I'll have to dish out some bucks and send my Kitty to the body shop.
Sunday, I tried teaching my wife how to drive mtx. Not a good idea. Aside from the bad shifting and engine cutoff, she managed to shift the car into 1st instead of 3rd--I thought I was gonna have a heart attack. She also released the clutch before completely shifting into gear. I never heard a car make that kinda noise before. After a while, I couldn't stand to see my Cat suffer anymore, so I told my wife the lesson's over (forever...in my Cat, anyway). Maybe I'll rent a mtx and teach her again sometime.
That paint issue sounds like a bad deal. I don't know if it helps with large areas of missing/faded paint, but try GS27 scratch remover, I've heard it works pretty good. Also, I don't blame you for ending the lessons, especially if you heard the sound that sends fear and angst into the hearts of all us MTX owners. Yikes -- I can almost hear the tear-filled cry from your transmission as it recovers from the weekend.
thanks for the info on the tires. thankfully this one was just a nail, so I was able to patch it. but that's the first one that's been able to be patched. I've had a hole in the sidewall of one, then a bunch of glass in another, then I also had a bubble in a tire. unfortunately, I have no idea which ones are original to the car, and which ones have been replaced. I completely agree that the firestones are terrible. I guarantee I will never again buy firestones. and if that's what comes stocked on my next new car, I will put different ones on before I even drive it off the lot. my luck with them has been awful. I'm sorry for everyone else's bad luck with them, but at the same time I am glad to know it's not just me. also, thanks for the warning about the brake pads. I'm getting close to that 30,000 mile mark, and will probably have them looked at next time I take it in. by the way, to DASAINT1, I also got my first scratch on my car at a home depot. what's up with that? I had my car about a month, went into the store for about 30 minutes, and when I came back out to my car, someone had hit me. it scratched my rear bumper pretty bad, and cost me 250 bucks to fix it. thanks everyone for your input! lesliep
I happen to like going to Home Depot, but I won't go there anymore (not in my Cat, anyway)--it just brings back bad memories.
It's unbelievable the trouble I go to to avoid putting my Cat in a position where it'll get damaged. I live in New York City, and I haven't driven the car in Manhattan at all (to avoid the potholes, tight parking spots, maniac Yellow cabdrivers, etc.). So I do most of my shopping in Yonkers or upstate NY, where there's plenty of parking, and I can park the car far away from everyone. This jerk went out of his way to scratch my Cat. Man, you just can't win sometimes.
The faded area is actually small. I could cover it with a sticker if I wanted to (like one of those VTEC stickers that every R$%#boy have).
I showed it to my brother-in-law who works in a body shop. He said that even though the spot is very small, he still has to paint the whole panel, and not just that small discolored spot. It'll definitely cost over $100 but less than $200 (does anyone know where I can get a VTEC sticker?).
I'm just beginning to detect some strange vibrations from my front-end, plus a rougher ride. Can this be associated with the problematic Firestone tires? Can anyone, as briefly as possible, go over the different problems folks have had with the tires? I would appreciate it.
I wouldn't describe my experience as a rough ride, either. I would have to say that I'm most disappointed with the overall performance of the tires. They have a tendency to slip on dry roads and wet roads, and generally make me feel uneasy pushing them into the turns. I've not had a blowout (knock on wood).
As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, they actually seem to be getting better, but this is probably because they know they're up for replacement. Funny how they know that, eh? :^)
The easy way to get the collected info is to click on over to www.ggw.org/xvlfafe/cougar_road_trip.htm and save the web page as a html file. Then you can put the file on the CSG site and dress it up a bit. If you need any help, post me here or give me an email.
As far as Lake Placid reservations are concerned, I'll find out what the availability is for the weekend we want (July 22-33) while I'm out there this Friday. While I could also make reservations, I feel it makes sense to scope out the situation before we sign up. I'll post the results by Tuesday of next week and within a couple of days thereafter we should be able to get a firm headcount and make the reservations.
Ok, I'm in. Wouldn't want to let Dasaint down, of course, so I'll bring beer. Enough for me anyway (heh heh heh.... )
But I must take issue with the "assuming we're bringing significant others" comment....some of us might hypothetically be insignificant. And my bike was stolen this past summer, and I haven't been able to replace it yet, so looks like I might be left out on that note, too.
Guess I'll just go eat sushi alone by the campfire...
Sign me up for a cabin, though...I'll do a tent if need be, but in that case I'm investing in a really nifty air mattress. I'm assuming any final choices of accomodations will be posted on the site??
I'm looking forward to putting names with faces..and if any of you have a 20-to-30 something male friend that is a Cougar nut, has a bike I can borrow for the weekend and is free the weekend of July 22, bring him, too LOL
Fastback2: I hope that NorthPole looks as good in person as they do in their website. Also if you know of other places that's better. Let us know. We're all anxiously waiting on your review, Mr. TourGuide.
Amber: I might be able to help you out. I have a 20-to-30 something male friend that is a nut (not a Cougar nut), has a bike (two flat tires and rims out of true, but you can borrow it anyway, I'm sure he wouldn't mind) and he is free the weekend of July 22 (but he's also broke). So do you want me to bring him along?!?
I'm 20 (i guess that put's me out of the "something" category though).... I don't have a Cougar (yet), but i'm sure we'd all agree; I'm a "Cougar Nut".....and I have a bike...
Just thought i'd throw up on the wall and see if it sticks ;^)
Actually, Mr. Saint, I have a 160-pound Rottweiler at home named Toby. He's actually a sweetheart, though. And really, I'm not as vicious as I seem...I would just hate to see you mar the finish of that pretty kitty cat...and of course, you can partake in the beer (and Long Islands for Rob) with everyone else. The oil change looks grim, though, if you go plastering stickers on that car. )
Rob, I LOVE paintball. I still have a nice lil' scar on my neck where I got pelted at point-blank range...OW...but it's been years since I've played. Do you have the handcuffs that go with that vest? I'm just asking for the benefit of group information, of course.
Dasaint: What the hell. Beggars can't be choosers...:o) Does he have a full set of teeth?
Jimbo: I'd be careful what you're throwing against walls. Get yerself one of them there kitty kats. And you don't have to be over 20 to be "something". ) I've got a few younger friends that I could bring along (I'm 24)...
