Diversity Antenna problems Reception is terrible

I have a stock stereo in my 2002 Trooper. Recently the FM reception has been horrible. Mostly static, and search wont find any local stations. (There are dozens) I thought it was a bad head unit, so I purchased an identical used tape player head unit that sits on top of the 6 disc changer. The newer used head unit also does not receive any FM channels. Only some really strong channels come in poorly. I have verified all the connections, and both of the diverisity FM plugs are plugged in. I have checked all known fuses. DO I have a bad diversity amplifier, is there such a thing? What should I check next?

I plugged in a standard FM antenna, from an autoparts store, and reception is great. This proves it is not the head unit, but the diversity antenna, or is there an fm amplifier. Where is the thing?

The diversity antenna wires run down the right side of the Trooper and connect under the Dash Compartment, where both wires connect to another set of wires that run to the Radio or head unit. Both of these wires were unplugged on the passenger side, near the floor! Connected them back up, and problem solved...

I am having a similar problem. I have 97 Trooper, Radio reception is terrible. WHERE exactly is antenna located? (I just got this car used) and where is this hook-up you mentioned? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The last picture of a Trooper that I saw has the antenna right at the base of the windshield in the corner on the passenger side.
