Highlander fuel filter

I've been a member for about 5 years. I've searched archives. I've seen the question asked but never answered.

Why doesn't the HL have a fuel filter?

Every internal combustion engine I've ever owned or worked on had a fuel filter. What does Toyota do that eliminates the requirement for a fuel filter? Where does all the junk go from dirty fuel?

The Nissan Altima is made the same way, with the fuel filter on the fuel pump in the gas tank.
