Mitsubishi Outlander Fuel Door

When shutting my fuel door on my 2004 outlander I heard something like falling. A clip fell from inside the fuel door and a little piece of plastic that looks like snapped from the clip that is in my hand. I was in the hurry so graps the pieces and shut the door. Now I cannot open the door using the auto release. It sounds like it is working but the latch is in my hand...need to open the door...without spending a zillion dollars....and doing any damage to the door and body of car. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

You may try to use good suction cup, if the only thing holding door is the spring.
Check some automotive or hardware stores, it usually cost ~$6. If not, you my want to call dealer service dep. for advice. Good luck.

the same thing happened to me! i was at a gas station when i found out it wouldn't open, so i had the attendant help me. i held open the interior switch while he pried open the door with a slim metal tool that had a rubber cover so it didn't scratch.
it just happened, so i have no idea of a permanent solution. i don't know yet where to find a replacement springy thing. if you find, do share!

don't they just use the same fuel cap door that they use on my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS? You flip a switch right by the driver's side door sill ta open up the fuel filler door, then you just unscrew the cap like usual. It's held in place by a plastic strap. If that is the problem, that strap is busted off, you will no doubt have to contact your dealer for a replacement strap for your cap.

The strap will just be screwed on, don't forget the screws from the dealer. Haven't really looked at the strap ta see if it screws on or not, just seems logical, and one of the things that likens me ta Mitsu is they are very, very shrewd, smart and...logical. Be sure and tell us what happens with this fix, OK?

That's what my GT has. Cap-on-a-strap and there's a mount in the filler door for placing the cap while refueling.

I will say the cap is very stiff to unscrew from the filler neck. It has loosened some from when the car was new but still takes more effort than I would prefer. The price we pay for sealed systems, I suppose.

It usually takes two hands ta start unscrewing it from the filler neck. Not always, but usually. Yep-I think you're right, it's the price we pay for sealed systems.

Perhaps the next design phase will offer a pressure release button on the gas cap or something else to release the pressure so the cap comes off easier.

I can do mine one-handed but it does take effort.

I bought new generic fuel cap in O'Reilly for below $10, after service manager refused to even document my complaint on brand new 2010 car. The problem is gone. One hand. Simply defective material in the manufacturers part.

is inexcusable. There's no way the service manager should just look the other way with this problem when we're talking about a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander obviously still under the 5 year, 60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper Warranty Mitsubishi offers. Inexcusable.

Glad you got the $10 part and solved everything with that. $10 speaks ta me ta fix a napplehouser like this one.
