Watch out for this with jack replacement

I was in the parking lot at work and a coworker noticed a dent in my rear passenger fendedr poking out. I had a flat earlier in the week and had the jack out. It appears that it is possible to open the jack too much while securing it in its storage area and dent the fender from the inside. I only hand tightened and do not feel I applied too much pressure. I guess there,s only a piece of plastic between the jack and the fender.
