Passenger Side Airbag Light

My wife and I purchased a 2007 Equinox and we noticed that when she sits in the passenger side seat that the airbag light indicator is illuminated OFF. In addition, when it is illuminated OFF, she can undo her seat beat and the seat beat light indicator does not light up. It is a if she is not sitting there. I know there is a weight limit and the dealer told us it was 88 lbs. My wife is small, but come on, 88 lbs. We have had it in at least 4 times and they have replaced the entire seat sensing device and cannot get it to duplicate. We had her co-worker sit in the seat as well and it does the same thing for her as it does for my wife and she is not less than 88 lbs. This last time, the engineers from Chevy told us that it is not the seat, but it was the way my wife body mass is. I was like what? My wife weight approx 130 lbs and is larger in the chest area, but come on. Has anyone heard anything about the light staying in the off position when someone is seated in the seat? We are ready to fight this because we feel they are trying to get rid of this. Oh yeah, there is 10,000 miles on it. I knew we should have purchased a Santa Fe. Any help is appreciated, feel free to email me @ [email protected]

the way I understand it, is that the airbag is "off" until the seatbelt is fastened. Some '07 Equinoxs had a recall for this because it wasn't working correctly. The weight limit is to protect children.
