transmission oil coolers

I have a chevy suburban model 1500 with 5.7 liter
engine and an engine oil cooler. It is a 1997 with
22k miles. I am pulling a 5000lb. trailer, often
over the Mohave desert. Would you recommend that a
transmission cooler be installed?

It should already have a trans cooler, especially if it came with a factory towing package.

In deed you need a tranny cooler. Even if it has one, I'd seriously consider adding a second remote cooler in front of the radiator. I used to pull a 6,000 lb travel trailer w/my Chev Van with only one cooler and the trans oil temp guage would be near 200 degrees normal, and higher in the hills. I now have add'l coolers and am pulling an 8,000 lb, TT and normal driving temps are around 160, and around 190 in the hills.

PS...and change the tranny oil/filter frequently. If it hasn't been changed already, its time, and I'd suggest changing it every 12K or so if you continue to pull the TT.

    Good luck, John
