Trooper Tire Wear

edited March 2014 in Isuzu
To all Trooper Owners,
I own a 98 Isuzu Trooper with 35K miles. I
noticed a very uneven wear on the two front tires.
Left tire is more uneven than the right. The
inside tread of the left tire is just about all
worn. I had an Isuzu Master mechanic look at it,
and he claims there's no mechanical problem. He
states that to prevent this kind of problem, I need
to regularly rotate the tires. For some reason I
have hard time believing him, and I wanted to get
your opinion. Has anybody had problem like this?
I appreciate all replies. Thanks!!

The mechanic is right. If the tires havn't been rotated once in 35K miles, you should expect more wear on the front. The front tires wear out quicker due to the stress and strain of turning back and forth. If you want maximum tire life they should be rotated about every 5,000 miles, and the front end alignment should be checked regularly. This has been true almost since day one of automobile use.

I agree that the tires need to be rotated regularly. The tires were rotated at approximately 15000 miles, so the front ones have been there for about 20000 miles. The question I have is, why didn't I see similar wear in the first 15000 miles? The stress and strain on the front tires should be the same.

Also, you said front end alighnment should be checked regularly. Exactly what time interval are you referring to (every 10000 miles? 15000?)?

    Thanks for your comment.

Have you seen our current topic on Tires?

We've had some discussion there about tire rotation. Why don't you take a look at the posts that are already there, and if you still have questions go ahead and ask in that topic.

Town Hall is really more akin to a social situation than it is to the more typical question and answer message boards.

Folks gather here to discuss lots of things about lots of topics. The way to get the best - and the most - information is to look around for a conversation (topic) that is interesting to you and join in. You have the advantage of all of the information in previous posts and you usually can get more responses in an existing topic.

Good luck, and welcome to Town Hall!
