The E46 page is exclusively for 99 and 2000 model 3 series. Odds are high that someone there will have some info based on experience.

    Thanks for the advice. I was able to get the transmission warning light to come on again, and after the mechanic inspected it today, it turns out an electronic sensor needed to be replaced on the transmission (which was causing the car to get stuck in 3rd gear). It was defective from delivery, just took a few months for the problem to show up.
