95 Riviera is it a keeper?

I was loving my 95 Riv (56k miles) until about 2
months ago. Recently my coolant leaked out and the
engine overheated. The mechanic told me it was
fixed. But it was making this propeller like noise
when it idled and got louder when I presses the
gas. Now they are telling me the barings are burnt
out and that it will be $4000 to replace the
engine. Is this a fair price? Is it worth it? or
Should I trade it in. I'd love to keep it but I
cant afford for something else major to go wrong.

You could go to a GM dealer and buy a new "crate engine" for less than that and it will be under waranty for another 3 years or 36K miles.

A friend of mine just had to have his rebuilt. He has the engine with supercharger or turbocharger(i forget which it is), well anyway, there were no "crate engines" available so his had to be rebuilt for around $4k. Because it had the "charger" some of the internal parts were different than in an "uncharged" engine. good luck

Check out this web site for the Buick crate engine for the Supercharged 3.8L V6 with 280 ft.lbs. and 240 hp.
