Your base price is ok with the $200 off. Best deal I've seen is $28250 (INCLUDED DESTINATION) compared to your offer of 28420 (YOUR offer, + destination - $200). HOWEVER, I don't know what state your in, but they are bending you over with that ridiculous $399 "processing fee". For example Documentation (aka processing) fee's are limited by law to $56 in the state of Illinois. So your real price in my mind is 28820, which isn't good. (unless maybe your in portland or somewhere where for whatever reason there is a serious premium on all cars). I'd call the guy and tell him to get rid of the ridiculous processing fee that that you'll do the deal. Dead Max I'd pay personally is no more than $60. This fee is for them to throw stamps on some paperwork that they must complete ANYWAY to sell you the car, and for the business mgr. to try and hardsell you on every undercoating, leather protection, extended warranty known to man. Your buying a honda, forget the warranty and change the oil on time! Also note that if you are financing you MUST be able to get the Honda 2.9 APR for 36 months or 4.9 for 60 months with this deal. If they try to tell you that this is a cash deal and that you must add $750 to the price for those rates, walk away it's B.S. Good luck.

    2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L w/DVD

    MSRP
    $33,290.00

    Our Price
    $28024.99

    Destination
    $595.00

    State and Local Taxes
    $858.60

    License, Title, Tag
    $69.00

    Processing Fee
    $399.00

Total Internet price of Vehicle, Taxes, Fees

I can get this for $200 less if I buy before month end (tomorrow). Good deal???

Going to start e-mailing dealers for a quote on an EXL. Should I ask for their best price as a "stock" vehicle at the start and then ask for accessories prices later or should I ask for the best price including desired accessories right up front? Thoughts? Thanks
  • oreincoreinc Member Posts: 4
Thanks a zillion for your comments. I am in NC and our fees can be crazy here. Some dealers charge $600 or more on these... called doc fees... $399 is actually reasonable here in the Charlotte, NC area.

I am getting 4.9 on the financing... 48 or 60 months, my choice... not buying any other dealer adds...

Sounds like I should do the deal tomorrow....

I read these posts and wonder what I am doing wrong. I have sent requests for quotes to every dealer within 50 miles and have gotten many replies, but nothing even close to what others are finding. I have determined a number that I won't be buying from (what atitude). Only one dealer was willing to give me MOST of the $750 Honda is offering them. :confuse:
So my best quote is 29700 for an EX-L w/ RES - Not very good at all. How are people getting the same van for $1000-1300 less than my quote? I have trolled the lots and they are overflowing with vans. Is it time for me to get off of the computer and into the dealership? :confuse:

jfritsch (sp?)'s recommendations are sound here (read past messages for exact spelling and the recs). It depends very much on your particular market. Some are more competitive than others. However, that being said, May 31 could be a good day to send a bunch of emails, giving them (as recommended) your cell-number, even in a less-competitive area (if what you say about the stock of Ody's is true). If true or possibly true, use the "I expect to purchase by the end of the day to the one who gives the best service & price" line. Or set an OTD price you are comfortable with, and buy from the first one to call you to accept it (specify color, options, mileage as you like in your outgoing message, and don't accept anything less).

Should be a buyer's market in most places for Odys these days. If it does not work tomorrow, there's always June, and the end of June is also the end of the 2nd quarter of the year.

You are almost certainly better off not going into the dealer until you have all of the numbers worked out.
  • oreincoreinc Member Posts: 4
My quotes are based in Charlotte, NC where there are a high number of Internet-based jobs (e-commerce, etc). I wonder if that plays into the Internet pricing from local dealers? Once they know you are researching the prices, they might as well offer you the best price or lose the sale.

First off, where are you? Its totally market dependent. Also noting your location, others may be able to steer you to someone (or a few dealers) to ask for the same deal.
    Asides from that...

Rule 1: Stay the H E double L out of a dealership until you've got a negotiated deal. Only then should you go in and test drive the EXACT vehicle that you intend to purchase and then pull the trigger in accord with the terms of your deal. Ie, feel free to put the screws on for a solid deal, but then honor it and don't pull "I need free splash guards to do this" when you show up. This is all in my humble opinion by the way, but if you just show up and try to negotiate, your 9.9 times out of 10 your going to lose. Your either going to end up totally frustrated, wasting valuable time before you walk, or 2 (and worse) you cave and accept a crappy deal based on b.s from the salesperson like "those other deals are too good to be true, it's aftermarket leather, they didn't include x,y,z in the price, blah blah. Additionally, you'll quickly find that certain dealers are just completely insane. For instance, my local guy down the street wants 2K more (and wont give honda APR rates for the price) than a dealer 20 miles away that is owned by the same friggin owner!? I could walk in and spend 4 hours there and not get the same deal. Its a waste of your time.

Rule 2, don't be bashful about mentioning your hitting a number of dealers in the area and that you fully intend to buy a car TODAY to the person that offers the best price and service. (I say today because tomorrows the end of the month). If you wait until June, might as well string it out until end of month, end of 2nd quarter). At any rate, mention your ready to pull the trigger soon for the right deal. Also mention your color preferences and ask for a price that INLCUDES destination and to spell out any additional fees above and beyond standard Tax, Title, License. If you know your target price and your willing to pull the trigger if you get it, note what it is your looking for. My only caution here is to know your numbers. Don't ask for an "out the door price of 30K" without knowing your local sales tax rates, etc...you can hurt yourself. If your not sure...your better off asking for price for new 2007 EXLRES factory installed INCLUDING destination. It's anal, but if you don't have them spell it out, your going to be in for hidden b.s. when you show up.

Personally if you have a local dealer, I'd hit everyone but them and then ask them to match or beat your best deal, but thats up to you.

I personally wouldnt even include my cell number until i get the first round of quotes then I'd go back at the top few, given your best price and see who's willing to earn your business. In my area, i'd end up with 20 phone calls instead of quotes back, asking me to "come in".

When all else fails, and you end up with 10 quotes at 27,900 (probably not including destination LOL) email them back saying you have a quote for 28,600 Including destionation. Heck, plug the friggin number in the email. Some would consider this unethical, but the bottom line is that they are either making a conscious decsion to sell you a car at a price or NOT. In my personal opinion (again, maybe not for you) feel free to let them know you have better offers. They can always say "no". Downside here is that you may not get anyone to play. Odds are you may see better prices, but maybe not exactly what you want. Tell them you'd rather do business with them for whatever reason, so if you can't get there, let me know where you can get to". worst case, nobody bites, but then your back where you started so no harm done.

Just don't panic and pull the trigger on a lousy deal. Like you said, there's plenty of them on the lots...patience is a virtue. Good Luck.

Where are you located and what accessories are you looking for? In my humble opinion, I'd get the base deal, including destination, all fee's etc and see where you net out. You can always negotiate in accessories after knowing your base deal. If you really get a great base deal and they aren't willing to budge on accessories, you can always purchase them online cheaper anyway. (unless its something you definitely want dealer installed like back up sensors)
  • odysseyfan1odysseyfan1 Member Posts: 33
trying contacting Burlington Honda, in burlington NC. They are the president award winner dealer, and have accurate online inventory. They are one of the two dealers gave me the lowest prices for EXL. contact them via their website, gave them your price which should be around 28500, and provide your phone number. I had good experience with them, hopefully you will too.

One piece of advice I will do always in the future...
Make sure whatever you do get the deal in writing. We spent hours researching, emailing, and on the phone. The deal was mysteriously more than I was promised on the phone as out the door. It wasn't much, a few hundred dollars but I refused to pay a penny more than I agreed to initially.
If you verbally agree, make sure they send you an email to include ALL options they will throw in and the exact out the door price. Bring a copy so there is no confusion. They will say anything to get you in there and then what you had verbally agreed to they tend to forget.

Bought a 2007 Odyssey EX-L with back-up sensors installed (no navi or RES) for $32,000 total out the door.

Felt I got a pretty good deal based on the Edmunds TMV in my area.

Very happy so far, getting about 22mpg in 60% city 40% highway driving.

How much did you paid for your EXL if you don't mind me asking. Am shopping around for a good deal. Does Linda have a last name? Please email me at pnl22@yahoo.com.

Hi, looking at EXL - no DVD, no navigation...in the Research Triangle Park area in North Carolina...

What is the best base price anyone is aware of in this area.

    Thanks.

Donkey, thanks for the advice. I'm in St. Louis so if anyone has had good experience with a dealer around here, please let me know. From what I see, $28250-29100 +TTL is the range in the last few pages of posts. Still far from my dealer quotes. I am not in a big hurry, but would pull the trigger if the deal were right. I could also take a road trip to Chicago where the grass seems greener.

24600 + 7% sales tax + 299 Doc Fee + 354 DMV Fee, total to 27,000 - Out the door. Is this a decent one? Please advice....

I got a Odyssey EXL today. Thanks for all info here. The typical quote I got is about $27300 on price.

    My numbers are:

    Price (incl dest charge) $26787
    Dealer Commission Fee $200
    Document Fee $250
    TTL Fee $113

    Plus local 5% Tax

    Hey myrebates,

I'm looking to buy an EX myself and have been following the board on EX sales.

    $24,600 including dest....wow...That is a great price!

Here are the dealer costs as I understand them. (I could be missing something)

    Invoice $25,990
    Destination $ 595
    Total $26,585
    Holdback @2% -$ 574
    Rebate $750 -$ 750

    Dealer net cost $25,261
    If holdback is 3% $24,974

$25,200 is about the best deal I have seen before yours.

It looks like the dealer would be losing 400 - 600 in that deal.

Do you have a trade in that they are getting?

    Also, where are you located?

Thanks and congrats on the great price!
  • odysseyfan1odysseyfan1 Member Posts: 33
Your best price should be 27300~600, plus doc fee, 3%tax, and ttl.

Note that wake county has doc.fee of 399, and therefore outside wake county u will get doc fee of 299.

I had good experience with burlington honda, auto park, goldsboro, boyd. so start with one that are farther from your place, and had the nearest dealer match their price. Eventually I had to call them, provide my ph. number to get the price down ~400.

Auto park honda has the largest inventory, so he should be your preferred dealer after you negotiate price with all others.

    Good Luck.

Is anyone who bought 2007 honda ody. EXL in bellevue, WA? I've gotten some deal, but I'm not sure if it's fair.
    --------
2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L for $28580.50 plus a $35 documentation fee, sales tax of $2632.63, registration of $175, meaning a total of $31423.13
    ---------
And I would like to know what is fair price around this area.

Just to let ya know the Odyssey EX-L without RES thru the Costco program is invoice of $28,753 + $700($700 over invoice thru Costco) + accessories + tax and licensing. Most accessories were mud flaps and wheel locks = $280.00. This was a first quote thru Renton Honda a couple weeks before Memorial day weekend. We ended up buying the one with RES ( DVD ) as you can read the post above your post. You can also do a search of this discussion (all 15,000 of them) and type in Renton Honda or Seattle,WA or a few other key words on your search. But to save you sometime go to post # 15101.
    Have fun.
PS.- The day we were at Renton honda, the bellevue store did call and quote me $29,9??.00 for the EX-L w/RES. But with our trade-in and how far we got with Renton honda we just stayed there and bought from them. This quote was from a man in the internet dept. As you already know, get a list of other dealers quotes over the internet before you go in face to face. If you need a few accessories, here is a couple website to get cheaper genuine honda parts from.
    www.hondaautomotiveparts.com
    www.handa-accessories.com
    www.accessories-honda.com

Thank you so much for your help.
I got 2007 Honda Ody. Touring at $34,100. I think it's not bad because the suggested price from car.com was 33,800.

    How do you think?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
It depends on whether it has nav. If so, great price. If not, well, you bought it so you must have thought it was okay.
  • ctkmctkm Member Posts: 4
$24,600 for a 2007 EX sounds excellent! Although the $299 document fee seems high, but overall your out the door price looks great and is the best I've seen!

What location/state and dealer did you use for this price? I'm debating whether I should wait til closer to end of June with 08 models, 4th of July weekend sales, or the end of quarter to see if prices drop further. Thanks!
  • laney0069laney0069 Member Posts: 12
    Edmunds.com said W/O RES/Nav = $33,400(invoice) or $34,240(what others are paying)
Did they throw anything in? (mud flaps,etc..)
Did you buy a warr.?,How much?
Did you have to deal with a trade-in?
Just looking for the whole story, so everyone can learn. :)
    Thanks,

I found this discussion board helpful, so hopefully others will find my post helpful too.

I got multiple rounds of bids from about 6 dealers in Northern VA and MD (DC suburbs). I ended up getting an:

    *EXL
    *nimbus gray
    *leather
    *Rear Ent Sys/DVD
*"appearance pkg" mud guards, wheel locks, other fluff they try to get you to pay for
*4.9% 60 month financing, no money down
*paid extra $1230 for the 8yr/120k miles honda care pkg

$29,500 out the door, including everything. invoice excluding freight was 29604. if you work backwards from $29500 out the door, and subtract about $900 tax, $595 freight, $50 tax/tags, $289 processing, I figure I paid about 27640 for the actual vehicle.

I had two dealers flat out walk away from that price, saying it was a great deal and they couldn't touch it. In the end I had two dealers that would play ball at that price and it came down to one being closer and more responsive.

Not sure it helped or not but I did buy on the 25th of May, thinking month end pressure to move vehicles. In my research on this board some seemed to get even better deals than this. I think if I had endlessly played these last two dealers against each other I could have gotten maybe $200 more off, and maybe $100 more off the honda care package if I didn't have my screaming 3 year old waiting for me in the show room.

    Hope that helps.

I'm looking for an EX-L in Northern VA, as well. Which 2 dealerships were willing to negotiate, and which one did you end up buying from?

    Any info would be appreciated!

I got several quotes from Leith, Autopark, Burlington and Crown in Greensboro. The prices all ranged from 27663-27900 for an EX-L no nav or dvd. I ultimately purchased my EX-L from Autopark in Cary for 27,663 plus tax, tag and doc fee. It was a very easy and pleasant experience and they had a good inventory. They were the lowest price and were willing to throw in mudguards and I was out of there very quickly after all the paperwork. Overall a good experience.

I'm considering either leasing a new 2007 LX Odyssey or purchasing a used 2004 EX/RES. The asking price for the used vehicle (certified w/ 1 yr. bumper-to-bumper, 7 yr. powertrain) is $20,900. I would like to drive a hard bargain and ask for a sale price of $18,000. First of all, are they going to flat out refuse to sell at that price?

Secondly, even though my monthly payments might still be less if I leased a 2007 EX compared to financing the entire sale price (which is what I'm probably going to do) of the used vehicle, my incentive to lease really is getting the lowest monthly payment possible for a new vehicle.

    Any advice?

I would like to thank everyone for the great info on pricing. Here's the deal I got in Phoenix for an EX-L Res with Nav:

    price for car = $30,546
    sales tax = $ 2,474
    registration = $ 610
    dealer service fee = $ 369

Out the door price = $34,000

    *no trade-in

I went through Edmunds and requested prices for the exact van from 8 Phoenix area dealerships. All of the prices ranged from $31,339 to $32,199, so I went with Arrowhead Honda which came in the lowest. Their internet/fleet sales department was great and painless. They quoted me $34,839 out the door, but I told them $34,000 and they took it. Only option that came with the price was front window tint. Also, no-one else in Phoenix would touch my final price within $500. I feel like I got a great deal!

    Ok, :)
First of all, I bought 2007 ODY. Touring for $34,100.
Touring comes with RES and no Nav.

I didn't get any accessaries, yet, but I will request when I pick it up tomorrow. :)

    I didn't buy any warr and I didn't trade-in.

Before I started a deal, I visited one dealershop several times to looked around and had some conversation with a dealer.

Yesterday, I checked cars.com to see fair price for ody. touring and it was $33,800. So, I started a deal from 33,800. The manager went out to talk with me and kept saying the invoice was $34,999. So, I told him that if so, then I would have more time, and tried to leave.

We talked about 4hrs and finally, I decided to buy at $34,100.

I hope this helps some of you.

There's no way to know whether they will sell for 18K unless you make an offer. Their bottom line depends on factors to which you are not privy, the principal one being how much they have in it. I will say though that used Hondas are not the best values around due to high prices and this one even at 18 wouldn't be any bargain.

While your desire to keep your monthly payments as low as possible is understandable, the '07s are better vehicles with vastly enhanced safety equipment. You should be able to get an LX for about 24K or so. Whether you purchase or lease one, this is the way to go.

I fired off several quote requests, and the best one so far was from David McDavid Honda in Irving, TX, quoting a selling price of $27400 + Dest + TTL. Everyone else is either "give us a call, come in for us to show you our dealership," or quoting a price in the mid $28k. I bought one from them before, and the experience was great. I was out of the dealership is less than 2 hours. All pricing was agreed upon over the phone/email. I am thinking about pulling the trigger on this one. Decision, decision.

Just starting the process. Looking at buying the EXL with RES in North Carolina. Thoughts on pricing versus invoice would be helpful.

Additionally, I am trying to understand what extra's are reasonable to assume at no cost. Wheel locks and mud flaps seem to be the starting point. I would like cross bars and potentially the roof box.

    Any other buying tips?

Would you mind to share which dealer you got this price?
We are also shopping around and need the van ASAP.

    Thanks.

any tips on what you went in with to get this price? Was this internet quotes, hard negotiations, etc. Sounds like a great price.

Am starting to look for one in the N Houston area.

Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated andyd93@yahoo.com.

We weren't quite ready to buy in May so we decided to wait until this month to buy since the special finance rates were supposed to last until 7/2 (according to both Edmunds and the Honda website). Has anyone that's bought in June still gotten the special rate? Is this common for manufacturers to list an expiration date for an incentive and then pull it early? Talk about frustrating.

That is strange! I recall seeing this a few days ago and spoke with a dealer rep yesterday who felt it was still being offered. I just checked Honda's website and feel as frustrated as you :(

I plan to buy an EX-L within this month. I did some research and found the lowest price you can get is $28,100 OTD in VA/DC/MD area (Assume you pay VA tax, MD tax is a little high). However, the dealer around won’t accept this offer immediately. I guess maybe this isn’t the end of the month so they are not in hurry to move out inventory. I just thought of an idea that may be easy for negotiation. I am looking for someone else in Northern VA (DC metro) area, who wants to buy the SAME trim car within this month and we can make a group bid on one dealership. Each individual sales person will get bonus at the end of month base on his sale record and the dealer also get Honda reward base on their total sales on each month. I expect if we bring in a group bid, say five people, at the last week of the month, any sales person will be motivated to push the deal. My goal is to get the lowest price with minimum effort. So if you are on the market and like my idea, and also:

    1. Plan to buy the same trim Odyssey EX-L. Saying exactly same trim because different trim will make the negotiation harder. I am sure if this approach works and everyone likes it you can start your own group.
    2. You live in DC metro area (NoVA is best).
    3. You can wait to the end of the month. I am buying this month so if your plan is next month, wait see how good the approach is and start your own.

    You need:
    1. Send me an email at kuanyao@yahoo.com including your name, phone number and description of what you are looking for. I will not disclose this until we make a group bid.
    2. I will approach several dealers and tell them I will present a group bid at the end of month and see their reaction. I am sure some of them will be interested. I will keep you informed on each step and you can also tell me any tips.
    3. At the end of the month, I will need your confirmation. Maybe gather some more information from you and initiate the bid.

I don’t know if anyone has used this approach and if this will work, but I think its worth of trying.

    Any comments?

    Hi,

Just put deposit on this car. Prices as follows:

    Base30204.00
    Document fee $389.00
    Title & tag $31.00
    State tax $1812.24

    Total OTD 32436.24

What do you think? Is this reasonable?
